AnyDesk Scam Call: A Threat to Elderly People's Safety

Recently, our community groups have notified multiple scams involving Anydesk remote computer freeware, targeting BT broadband and phone customers. The scammers are making fraudulent calls claiming to be 'BT Support,' and their modus operandi is to spread malware on victims' computers.

The scammers target elderly people by calling them with Indian accents, warning of malware on their computer, and assuring them that they can fix the issue if they install Anydesk. However, this is a scam in disguise. The goal of these fraudulent calls is not to help the victims but to gain unauthorized access to their computers.

Fortunately, some friends remembered our warnings and disconnected before any malware could be installed on their devices. Nevertheless, the experience has been unsettling for them, as well as for many others who have fallen victim to this scam.

The scammers' tactics are becoming more sophisticated, and they are using psychological manipulation to trick victims into believing that they need to install Anydesk to stay safe. They may even claim that installing the software will ensure their safety, particularly if they use internet banking. However, this is a lie designed to deceive unsuspecting people.

It's essential for BT broadband and phone customers to be aware of these scams and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from fraudulent activities. One way to stay safe is by being cautious when receiving calls claiming to be from 'BT Support.'
